Ayia Napa Marina
A design sculpted to blend with the newly reclaimed natural shoreline.
Edgewater staff acted as lead consultant for the Ayia Napa Harbor and Marina project in Cyprus, overseeing a 22.7-hectare land reclamation effort to create a 16-hectare basin dredged from a calcarenite seafloor. A 900-meter, 25-ton tetrapod armored breakwater was designed to shelter the shoreline from predominant storm waves, supplemented by a 300-meter artificial beach and offshore submerged breakwater to manage wave action dynamically. Extensive oceanographic analysis and computer simulation, including climate change consideration, guided the design process. Thorough 3D physical model testing assessed wave conditions, sediment transport, and beach stability. Edgewater provided detailed construction documents and provided full-time monitoring for the project’s quality and quantity throughout, culminating in the Engineer-of-Record approval of the completed works after the final diver inspection.
