Kennedy Point
Floating Wave Attenuator

The world’s first floating wave attenuator of this size.

The site for a new marina at Kennedy Point in Auckland was challenging due to an aggressive wave climate, the environmental sensitivity of the site due to the area being a penguin rookery, and extremely poor soil conditions that essentially precluded the use of any heavy marine structures. Edgewater analyzed several models for wave protection, resulting in a design for a 1,000-foot-long curved floating wave attenuator. The specific shape was configured to radially disperse reflected wave energy and minimized wave transmission of longer period storm waves into the marina. The system effectively operates over a large range of water levels, producing a resilient yet environmentally compatible marine harborage.
