Point Allerton Seawall
Designing with climate change in mind.
Point Allerton, located along the northeastern elbow of the Nantasket Peninsula in Hull, Massachusetts, is a site of historical significance. The existing shoreline revetment was experiencing severe overtopping during large storm events, leading to backshore erosion and progressive structural failure. Edgewater was tasked to assess the contributing factors behind this deterioration and develop potential solutions. The Edgewater team evaluated the site’s conditions, focusing on the effects of both chronic and episodic wind/wave events across a range of water levels. The analysis resulted in four design recommendations aimed at protecting the upland structures, including a drainage system to manage excess water during rare but extreme events.
